The 2012 Olympic Games begin on July 27 with the Opening Ceremony and close on August 12, after 17 days, 302 events and more than 10,000 athletes competing for one of the greatest achievements in sports: the gold medal. In other words, not soon enough!
I’m guessing most people assume that the Opening Ceremony is the first official Olympic event – it’s not! Soccer actually begins before the Opening Ceremony, on July 25, 2012. And of course, to get to the London Games, athletes must compete in Olympic Trials – some of which will be televised or can be streamed online. (More on that here.)
We (and especially me!) here at Bright House Networks are so very excited for the upcoming London Games. I think everyone has Olympic memories that stand out in their mind, whether it’s the Dream Team in ’92, Kerry Strug’s final vault in ’96, or Michael Phelps’ epic gold medal quest in ’08. Or maybe you remember another Olympic moment that was before my time, like Nadia’s perfect score or Derek Redmond’s heartbreaker of a race. (Feel free to hit the comments section to share your Olympic memories or try to guess my age.) The Olympics bring us together in a special way to cheer on Team USA, bask in the glow of international sportsmanship and see the world send their best to compete on one of sport’s biggest stages. And I can’t wait for it to start!
