Welcome to bye-week mania #2 with the players from Arizona, Denver, Kansas City, San Diego, Seattle and Tennessee all in the Bahamas. All you Tim Tebow fans will have to wait another week before plugging him in to save your 2-3 fantasy team! What we do have Sunday are the Minnesota Vikings at the Chicago Bears and Monday the Miami Dolphins visiting the New York Jets.
Sunday Night
Vikings at Bears Sunday – NBC 8:20 pm ET
NFC North bottom dweller battle between Adrian Peterson’s Minnesota Vikings (1-4) and Matt Forte’s Chicago Bears (2-3). The Vikings are nearly done as far as playoff hopes this year, but for many fantasy football teams, their dreams rest squarely on the shoulders of Peterson. The Bears are also a more fantasy football relevant team than NFL, as Forte has been outstanding both running and catching the ball out of the backfield. He is accounting for a 1999 Marshall Faulk like 50% of the Bears offense. The Bears three relevant fantasy players continue to be Forte’, Jay Cutler who keeps getting up after being sacked 18 times and the physical specimen Dane Sanzenbacher, who leads the Bears in receptions. Look for Bears TE Kellen Davis to catch another TD this week. For the Vikings, WR Michael Jenkins may be worth a look if he is available in your league for a plug in. Oh yeah, Donovan McNabb plays for the Vikings too, don’t start him ever, it’s not 2004. This week’s score projection is Bears 27, Vikings 21.
Monday Night
Miami Dolphins at New York Jets Monday – ESPN 8:30PM ET
The great rivalry between the underperforming NY Jets (2-3) and the upstart Miami Dolphins (0-4) picks up for 2011. Every year this game makes me pause and relive one of the greatest plays in sports history, the fake spike. Take that Jets fans! As much as it hurts me to say, from a Fantasy Football perspective there are no Dolphins, outside of a suddenly unretired Dan Marino or Brandon Marshall worth starting, even as we enter bye week season. That being said, I have Davone Bess starting for me in my league. Reggie Bush or Daniel Thomas may also be back from injury, which if you are in a 14 team league and you have both your running backs on bye weeks, then possibly. The problem is you probably took Bush in the fourth round and are counting on him to turn it around. He probably won’t, but he might and that’s the problem. You know Bush is going to have a monster game at some point, you just don’t know when. The Jets are also a gamble, Mark Sanchez is coming off his first no turnover game of the season. Shonn Greene had a decent week last week, but LT is creeping back in to take carries away. Yahoo! is reporting that Santonio Holmes, Plaxico Burress and Derrick Mason are denying that they met with Rex Ryan to complain about the offensive play calling. The only thing offensive about those three is their fantasy production…Dustin Keller has outperformed all three. Mason, who I believe is 47 years old, was traded to the Texans on 10/11, and that creates and interesting fantasy pickup. If you have a chance, Keller is the only Jet receiver to start in this predicted route, Dolphins 48, Jets 6.
What are your predictions this week?
