The “Us” in Census

One of the biggest population trends revealed in the 2010 U.S. Census data is diversity, as our nation’s minorities continue to be the fastest-growing segments of the population.

In Florida, for example, the Hispanic population has increased by nearly 25% in the past decade and now accounts for 23% of the total population, up by 6% from a decade ago. Tampa’s Hispanic population now accounts for 23% of residents, while Orlando’s makes up slightly over 25%.

Based on the numbers that the latest Census has revealed, multicultural growth is occurring in every category, whether it’s the Hispanic population or increases in citizens of Asian and African-American origin. And the American Community Survey that is part of the U.S. Census now shows that almost all the communities served by Bright House Networks in Florida, Alabama, Michigan, Indiana and California are at or above the U.S. national average of 12.4 percent of the citizens being foreign born. Bright House Networks has been recognized through both local and national awards – including the Onyx Award in Florida and the national Walter Kaitz Foundation Award for its own diversity efforts.

To help customers stay in touch with friends and relatives around the world, Bright House Networks offers an ever-increasing selection of International programmers on the Cable TV lineup, as well as low-cost International calling with Home Phone, and the ability to connect through some of the fastest High Speed Internet available. Providing a continuous global connection to local customers means that major events such as the 2010 World Cup could be seen not only in High Definition and 3D, but also in English, Spanish and Portuguese on Bright House Networks channels.

Most recently, Bright House Networks helped its globalized customer base by quickly offering its customers free international calling to Japan and free live coverage of unfolding events from TV Japan after the devastating earthquakes and tsunami.

Please feel free to share how we helped you or someone you know connect with a loved one during this time of crisis.
