Sochi Olympics: What to Watch This Week

We’re in the final stretch – the Sochi Olympics are nearly in the books. Netherlands leads in the medal count with 17 total medals, with Russia and the United States tied for 2nd with 16 each. Norway and Canada are currently splitting 3rd with 14 each. But there’s still a week of competition left, so standings could change quickly!

As previously mentioned, you have LOTS of options to watch these Sochi Olympics on your TV and online. For our purposes here, I’ll mostly focus on Primetime coverage, but you can also watch these events earlier in the day on NBC Sports Network or anytime online.

What to Watch On Monday, America’s best hope for a gold medal in Figure Skating takes the ice for the finals of Ice Dancing. Look for big air in the Ski Jumping and men’s Aerials competitions and high speed in the Snowboard Cross race. An “American phenom” makes her debut in women’s Giant Slalom on Tuesday, and an exciting relay in the Short Track competition puts 16 skaters on the ice at the same time on Tuesady night.

Wednesday starts the women’s Figure Skating compeition and all eyes will be on this event. You have a reining ice queen battling her longtime rival, alongside a breakout Russina star skating on home ice with her eye on a gold medal as well. You can also check out the women’s Bobsled event and the gold medal final in men’s Parallel Giant Slalom. Thursday brings the conclusion of the women’s Figure Skating event along with men’s Ski Cross and women’s Halfpipe Freestyle Skiing.

Over the Weekend Friday night is all about the need for speed with women’s Slalom Alpine Skiing, the men’s Team Pursuit in Speed Skating and men’s 500m, Relay and women’s 1000m in Short Track. Team USA is looking to end a drought by winning their first slalom gold since 1972. It’s back to the mountains on Saturday evening for more Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding with the men’s Parallel Slalom events. The 2014 medalists in Figure Skating will also take to the ice for a Gala event, skating programs of their choice for their fans. The Closing Ceremony is on Sunday.
