Promoting Volunteerism with Community Service Day

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, about 64 million people volunteered through or for an organization- at least once between September 2010 and September 2011. As one of the millions of volunteers in this country, I am proud to share the news about Bright House Networks’ Community Service Day.

Community Service Day is an employee volunteer initiative that will be ongoing throughout the year in our markets in Florida, Alabama, Indiana, Michigan and California.  It began in 2005 in Tampa, Florida as a day where employees had the opportunity to volunteer in their community during work hours.

From the news release - ”The program gives all full-time employees one regularly scheduled workday each calendar year to volunteer and part-time employees four hours per calendar year to volunteer.”

For me, this program means a lot since I enjoy volunteering on a regular basis as a board member of both the Afterschool Alliance and the Florida Afterschool Network.  I enjoy helping to promote these organizations’ messages of providing access to quality and affordable afterschool programs for all young people.

Here at Bright House Networks, our employees make a difference by volunteering their time at afterschool programs, public schools, arts and cultural, civic, environmental and community service organizations. In 2011, more than 200 Bright House Networks executives served on the board of directors for more than 230 organizations. In addition to serving customers, Bright House Networks is committed to serving the community by providing resources, local leadership, and supporting volunteerism throughout all service areas.

So depending on where you volunteer or live, you may see one of our team members or a group of Bright House Networks employees giving back on their Community Service Day.  Stop by and say hello or better yet, join us as we continue to share the importance of volunteering locally.

What are some of the ways you volunteer or give back to your community?  We welcome your comments and volunteer project ideas that employees could do in the future.
