Bright House Networks recently recognized Jones High School senior Alexis Oliver as the 2012 recipient of the prestigious Nap Ford Scholarship. The $5,000 scholarship will enable Alexis to attend Bethune-Cookman University where she will study criminal justice.
This is the fourteenth consecutive year that Bright House Networks has presented the scholarship that preserves the legacy of Nap Ford. Ford was one of Orlando’s first black elected officials as well as a champion of education, and graduated, taught and coached at Jones High School. Through the Nap Ford Scholarship, Bright House Networks has awarded $70,000 to enable higher education for students after graduation from high school.
Alexis’ Guidance Counselor, Tia Wheeler (second photo), presented her the award at Jones High School’s annual Senior Awards Ceremony on April 27.
Congratulations Alexis! All the best as you begin your first year at Bethune-Cookman University.
