I Love the NFL Network…and RedZone

As some of you may remember, I am a fantasy football guy. Being a Fantasy guy, I feel the NFL RedZone is the greatest invention since the computer started keeping the stats. In the old days (pre-1997) you had to rely on the commissioner of the league to tabulate the scores by hand from the box scores on Monday and Tuesday morning to find out if you won for the week. Now there is stat tracker, scoring projections, even new stories generated by the league.

The NFL RedZone is as big of a game changer. Last weekend I got to experience each agonizing touchdown scored on me by my friend Chuck. Chuck is awful at fantasy football. He normally shows up to the draft 5 minutes late with a pack of Slim Jim’s, a 20 oz. Diet Mountain Dew and a pack of Strawberry Swisher Sweet cigars. He does no preparation whatsoever for the draft and then for the rest of the year wonders why his team is terrible. I depend on beating him every year, because in a 14 team league, you need every win you can get. So that brings me to the NFL RedZone, which shows every touchdown from every game. I had to sit on my couch and watch Chuck’s Houston defense dance across the goal line for not one, but two touchdowns last week in agony as he beat me 140-133.

This week I take on Cliff, we are both 1-3. This is now labeled the “panic button bowl” because whoever loses this week can pretty much take the rest of the year off. I am hoping for Drew Brees to pull me through Sunday night as he has done so many times before, but unfortunately Cliff has Aaron Rodgers.

Thankfully, I was able to enjoy Thursday night’s Rams vs. Cardinals game in peace, because I didn’t have anyone on my team playing in that game. I love that I now get to watch NFL Football all day Sunday, Sunday night and Monday night!  My wife is thrilled!

Wondering if there are any sleepers out there I am missing? I really need to beat Cliff, he’s beaten me 5 times in a row.

So let me know during the next commercial break – Are you enjoying NFL RedZone (sometimes) and NFL Network as much as I am?

  1. It was a pleasure beating you early this year

    • I can’t say the feeling was mutual.

  2. Good luck against Cliff. I hear he is a man with a plan! Isn’t it marvelous that you can watch all your football games. That is if your wife will let you! Happy watching!

    • Thanks!

  3. I am happy to report that my losing streak against Cliff has finally ended with a 155.85 to 92.46 victory! Now on to play Chuck’s brother Keith next week. He has Andrew Luck and Calvin Johnson. I have Drew Brees on a bye week, so I am thinking of starting Josh Freeman or possibly picking up Matt Cassel. Thoughts?

    • Way to go, Brian! I have no advice about Freeman or Cassel. When in doubt, pick “C.” Good luck and hope you win again this weekend!

  4. I tell you. I’ve not really watched much football in years except form my seat in the Swamp. If I did, it would be college football. Lately though since the NFL Network and Redzone have been available, a good bit of fun has again been injected into the experience and I’m having fun watching NFL football again. Kudos.

    • Hey Craig, Feel free to comment on our weekly college football post. Joe really appreciates hearing from Gator fans on a regular basis. How about that game on Saturday? Were you there?

  5. Lorelie, I’d be happy to comment and no, I was unfortunately not there. My nephew had a party and most of the family chipped in the seats for him last week. You know something though? It’s great to be a Florida Gator! :-)

  6. I lost, but even with that loss I would still strongly advise against picking up Matt Cassell.

Joane, thank you for your kind words.

    • Cassell has looked rough, but I think he could have a big game. Joane is a huge Baltimore Brawlers fan (Cliff’s team), has been for years. Thanks for stopping by Cliff.

  7. The redzone is perfect for my short attention span. Nothing but highlights!

  8. If I had it, I would bathe in red zone glory all day. It would be bad for my marriage.
