Florida’s Paleo Indians: On the Road with Dr. Libby O’Connell

Editor’s note: This summer we will be “On the Road” with our friends from History. We are grateful to Dr. Libby O’Connell and her team for sharing their expertise and knowledge with us about Florida history. Please enjoy the above video and learning more about Florida’s Paleo Indians.

Florida’s Paleo Indians: Over one hundred years old, Winter Park is a lovely historic town .  But  thousands of years  before Winter Park was settled by European Americans, the  Paleo Indians lived in this region, during the last ice age.  They knew the real meaning of climate change!

Are you familiar with the history of the Florida’s Paleo Indians?

  1. As a transplant to Florida from elsewhere, I am pretty much ignorant of Florida history. I really appreciate the history “bites” and you make me want to take a class in Florida history to learn more. Thanks, Dr. Libby!

    • Hi Whitney, Thanks for your post! A lot of people don’t know their local history, even if they’ve lived in Florida for years, so just the fact that you’re learning it now as a newcomer is terrific. I wonder if the community college nearby offers a local history course. There’s so much to learn. Best, Libby
