College Basketball Preview: February 11 through February 17

In our Bright House and yours, we’re excited about two things: the Winter Olympics in Sochi and college basketball on the hardwood around the country. When you’re not trading water cooler stories about the great bobsled and ski jump runs that make us all proud to root for the Stars and Stripes, we know you’re bragging about how your team is ranked and theirs isn’t, or trash talking about how your underdogs will take down their favored team. This week we’ll take a look at matchups involving Top 25 teams, and give you some predictions for the biggest games of the week. Teams in bold are Bright House Networks hometown teams.

Tuesday, February 11:

#3 Florida
at Tennessee on ESPN and WatchESPN
Oklahoma State at #19 Texas on ESPN2 and WatchESPN

#15 Michigan at #22 Ohio State on ESPN and WatchESPN
Michigan comes into this game with only two Big 10 losses and ranked 17th in the nation in shooting percentage. Meanwhile Ohio State will look to defend the home court by extending their current three-game winning streak.

Prediction: Michigan wins a nail biter 76 – 75.

#5 San Diego State at Wyoming on ESPNU and WatchESPN

Wednesday, February 12:

#1 Syracuse at #25 Pittsburgh on ESPN and WatchESPN
Top-ranked Syracuse is the only undefeated team left in the ACC this season, and they’ll invade Petersen Events Center looking to extend that streak and knock Pittsburgh out of the rankings. Meanwhile the home-standing Panthers enter the game having won their last two contests and ranked 19th in the country in assists with over 16 per game.

Prediction: Syracuse keeps their perfect season rolling 80 – 68.

South Florida at #24 Connecticut on ESPN2 and WatchESPN

#6 Villanova at DePaul on FOX Sports 1
#14 Kentucky at Auburn on ESPN3 and ESPN Full Court

#8 Duke at North Carolina on ESPN and WatchESPN
UCF at #20 Memphis on ESPNU and WatchESPN

Thursday, February 13

Northwestern at #9 Michigan State on Big Ten Network
#13 Louisville at Temple on ESPN and WatchESPN
#18 Creighton at Butler on CBS Sports Network
#23 SMU at Rutgers on ESPNews

Minnesota at #21 Wisconsin on ESPN and WatchESPN

Friday, February 14

#2 Arizona at Arizona State on ESPN and WatchESPN

Saturday, February 15

#17 Virginia at Clemson on ESPN2 and WatchESPN
#20 Memphis at #24 Connecticut on ESPN and WatchESPN
Memphis will be riding a 3-game winning streak on Saturday after they dispose of the hapless UCF Knights earlier in the week. The visitors sit four spots higher in the polls and are the 4th best team in the country with nearly 18 per game. Meanwhile, UConn’s faithful at the XL Center will do their best to keep the hometown team in the game. Prediction: The Tigers tame the Huskies 83 – 76.

#16 Iowa at Penn State on ESPNU and WatchESPN
#25 Pittsburgh at North Carolina on CBS

Texas Tech at #11 Iowa State on ESPN3 and ESPN Full Court

Virginia Commonwealth at #12 Saint Louis on ESPN2 and WatchESPN

North Carolina State at #1 Syracuse on ESPN3 and ESPN Full Court
Houston at #10 Cincinnati on ESPNU and WatchESPN

TCU at #7 Kansas on ESPN3 and ESPN Full Court

Maryland at #8 Duke on ESPN and WatchESPN

Air Force at #5 San Diego State on CBS Sports Network
#22 Ohio State at Illinois on Big Ten Network

#3 Florida at #14 Kentucky on ESPN and WatchESPN
The Gators will hope to slip past Tennessee early in the week to remain undefeated in SEC play as they head into this big SEC matchup at Rupp Arena.  The Wildcats will be sure to have their fans in a frenzy as they crash the boards (Kentucky is the 7th best team in the country with nearly 42 rebounds per game) and try to end Florida’s undefeated conference record.

Prediction: The Wildcats pull the upset 83 – 72.

Sunday, February 16

#21 Wisconsin at #15 Michigan on CBS
Wisconsin sits three games behind Michigan in the Big 10 standings, so any ground they can make up will give them a better shot at winning the conference regular season title. However, Michigan is tied with in-state rival Michigan State for the conference lead, and they won’t give ground without a fight, especially at home in Ann Arbor.

Prediction: Michigan wins at home 80 – 72.

#23 SMU at Temple on CBS Sports Network

Nebraska at #9 Michigan State on Big Ten Network

#4 Wichita State at Evansville on ESPN3
#6 Villanova at #18 Creighton on Fox Sports 1
Villanova sits atop the Big East coming into this game, and will likely be riding a six-game winning streak after playing struggling DePaul earlier in the week. But Creighton is nipping at the heels of the Wildcats, only a half-game back in conference play and having the rowdy hometown crowd on their side for this one.

Prediction: Villanova wins this one 87 – 78.

Rutgers at #13 Louisville on ESPN2 and WatchESPN
