C-SPAN Comes to Birmingham for Civil Rights Movement Anniversary

Bright House Networks partnered with C-SPAN to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Birmingham Civil Rights Movement this past week.

The events included a special C-SPAN tent at Kelly Ingram Park for the Turnipseed March, where guests were able to learn about C-SPAN’s unique programming and pick up C-SPAN information and giveaways.

C-SPAN will air coverage of the anniversary on C-SPAN3 and www.c-span.org on Saturday, May 4 at 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. CT.

Coverage will include:

  • An interview with Freeman Hrabowski, President, University of Maryland Baltimore County, and veteran of the 1963 Student Boycott and Children’s March
  • Unveiling of Historical Marker to Martin Luther King Jr.’s Letter from Birmingham Jail
  • Alabama Historical Association Annual Meeting on the History of 1963 Birmingham Civil Rights Protests
  • First- person stories from veterans of the 1963 Student Boycott and Children’s March
